On our “regular” programming

A typical week

People! What are we doing here? First of all, Sunday, my sabbath, is supposed to be a day of rest. Three soccer games and one birthday party and the implied carpooling between each, not to mention the grocery shopping and laundry not listed, does not equal rest. What happened to my 7th day?

Second, explain to me please how I’m supposed to put into practice all the stuff I’m reading about family dinners and designated homework time, etc. when my kids are literally booked until six or seven every night. And, again, because of implied carpooling, I cannot be in the kitchen prepping meals.

Less is more, they say. Stop saying yes, they say. Quality over quantity, they say. Unfortunately, “they” are not getting through to enthusiastic recruiters of afterschool activities nor to the well-intentioned coaches who claim to support the idea of diversified athletes but whose practice schedule makes it dang hard to practice more than one sport.

If anyone can identify an actual thread loop I could start picking to unravel the hot mess of a calendaring knot I and my fellow moms seem to have gotten ourselves into, please let me know!
